For the very first time, the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli took part in Summit on the Transformation of Virtual Education, organized by Microsoft Corporation. The minister addressed the public and introduced them to the challenges facing the Georgian education system and various mechanisms to solve the obstacles amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.

The summit was attended by representatives of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the International Organization for Economic Development and Cooperation (OECD) and more than 300 leaders in the education sector.

The Summit moderator, Andreas Schleicher, Head of OECD Education Directorate, once again spoke about Georgia’s successful implementation of educational measures and the effective adaptation of distance learning during the COVID-19 crisis and named Georgia and Finland, leader countries in this regard.

Notably, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD), released a report on tackling the educational challenges in 2020 caused by COVID-19 pandemic. Study examined practices implemented from 98 countries. The measures taken by the Georgian government to ensure a continuous education process are considered to be one of the best examples. Mikheil Chkhenkeli, in his speech, once again expressed his gratitude and thanked Andreas Schleicher for the high praise.
