Minister of Education
and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini visited the refurbished library of
public school №60 and presented the school with a collection of Young Adults’
Literature.
Upgrading of the school
libraries is one of the initiatives of the President and priorities of the
Ministry. In 2010 the process of renovating of the school libraries and
supplying them with the books began.
Library of public
school №60 fully meets the modern standards and there are 12 000 books
there. It is an ideal environment for holding lessons, literature evenings and
open classes. The school is planning to invite famous authors and public
figures and arrange their meetings with the schoolchildren.
Apart from the reading
room, the library has a room with computers, where schoolchildren can search
any information. Refurbishing of the school library was carried out within the
means of the school’s budget.
Ministry regularly supplies
the school libraries with supplementary manuals and other learning materials. Last
year, all schoolchildren from socially vulnerable families were provided with
the textbooks. After these schoolchildren use the books, they are handed over
to the school library so that other schoolchildren can also benefit from them.
