The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia - Mikheil Chkhenkeli presented the education system Action Plan to the representatives of the education sector, invited guests and the media.
The Action Plan serves to increase the quality of education at all levels, which is one of the components of the government's four-point plan. Moreover, the implementation of certain components has already begun.
Changes in general education:
Supporting teachers and their professional development – The Ministry provides the means to develop the professional and practical skills in teachers. By means of special trainings, they will master modern methods of teaching and technologies.
Providing students with the quality textbooks – The process of approving the textbooks, which will last for the next two years, will provide the refinement of the context in Georgian textbooks. The content, as well as the weight, will be tailored to the children’s age and their capabilities.
System Development - local and international specialists will evaluate the general education system. It is planned to combine the national educational model with the Finnish one.
Development of creative thinking – Within the scope of the “Eureka” project, leading scientists in the field will conduct a non-standardized lessons in various subjects, hoping to awaken the interest towards general sciences.
Introduction of technology in schools – It is intended to implement a Microsoft Education project - Minecraft Education Edition in Georgian schools. Teachers will impart certain subjects based on a popular game. Thus facilitating the development of spatial, logical and creative skills amongst students.
New life to schools located in villages – construction of new schools and renovating the existing ones is an unresolved priority of the Ministry. Schools in Georgian villages will be transformed into educational-culture centers, uniting nursery, school, vocational college, library and a sports club.

Changes in vocational education:
- Higher vocational education – vocational colleges will be established in universities. Students will benefit with all the advantages that the university has.
- Employment orientation – vocational colleges are being created in cooperation with private companies, thus enabling the graduates to be employed by the same company.
- Internationalization of teaching – The Ministry is actively cooperating with various international vocational schools. Mobility of students and faculty members will develop certain academic programs and take the international standards at the appropriate level.
Changes in Higher Education:
- Assisting university development – The ministry, together with the World Bank, is intensively working on the development of a new model of financing that will facilitate the execution of scientific-research processes in Georgia.
- Supporting Science – Conducting grant competitions is fundamental in research studies. Cooperation with international scientific foundations and organizations such as Horizon2020, Cost Action, Academia Europea, CERN, will enable Georgian scientists to participate in international studies.
Changes in Youth Policy:
- Promoting informal education – The Ministry will facilitate the seasonal functioning of science schools; access to the youth and school camps will be increased greatly. Internationalization of camps will encourage young people to become friends with their foreign counterparts, thus developing youth diplomacy.
