Batiashvili met with Judokas who returned from the World Cup together with
First Deputy -Mikheil Giorgadze and Deputy - Shalva Gogoladze. The event was
hosted by Wine Factory N1.
The Minister congratulated the members of the national team, coaches and
federation representatives, including the acting president Giorgi
Atebegashvili. At the meeting they talked about the forthcoming World Youth
Championship and the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games.
The Georgian national judo team successfully won at the World Championship in
Baku and won 3 medals - 1 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze and took 4th place in the
team. It is noteworthy that according to the medals obtained by the boys,
Georgian team is just behind Japan and Korea.
Guram Tushishvili (+100kg) returned from Azerbaijan as the World Champion title.
After 2014, Georgia celebrated its first World Cup in judo. Tushishvili won all
the matches, including the final confrontation with Azerbaijani - Ushangi
Kokauri on behalf of Azerbaijan. It should be noted that the captain of our
team defeated Azeri Elmar Gasimov of Rio Olympics in the third round. Amiran
Papinashvili (-60kg) won the bronze medal with the defeat of the host country
Karamat Huseynov. After another defeat of Lasha Shavdatuashvili (-73kg) in the
final bloc, he broke into the repetition and lost the first fight.
The Japanese team played the most successful in the World Championship.
Japanese gained 8 gold medals in total. Japan's capital Tokyo will host the
2019 world championship.
