"Today we celebrate one of the most important dates in the recent history of Georgia.

The first peaceful demonstration in Soviet history on April 14, 1978, not only preserved the state language, but also became a key moment when the Soviet regime was forced to dedicate itself to the people for the first time. April 14 gave a strong impetus to Georgia's preparations for the restoration of independence.

Today, we thank all those who, 42 years ago, defended the Georgian language at the risk of their lives - the foundation of our identity.

April 14 is not just a mere historic date - it reminds us of our responsibility to restore the grandeur to one of the oldest and most unique languages in the world, and also to help our fellow citizens to master it and strengthen its state status.”
