The Minister of Education and
Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and the President of the Georgian Chamber of
Commerce and Industry, Kakha Baindurashvili, signed a memorandum which aims to
involve the business organizations of the Georgian Chamber of Commerce and
Industry in a project called “Summer Jobs for Students”.
In the scope of the program “Teach and Learn With Georgia”, another
group of English language teachers arrived in Georgia from the USA, Great Britain, North Africa, Australia, and Lithuania.
On the grounds of Tbilisi State Medical University, a training centre for academic personal has been created. University’s students and professors will have the great opportunity to pass internship programs and learn new methodologies in leading European medical centers.
At a seminar, organized in Bakuriani, Deputy Minister of Education and
Science of Georgia Giorgi Chakhnashvili held a working meeting with
100 School Resource Officers of Tbilisi. The Deputy Minister summarized the previous years activities of the Office of Resource Officers and positively
evaluated SROs work.
An exhibition of hand-made crafts produced by special needs schoolchildren from Tbilisi Public Schools № 200, 198, and 203, and Kutaisi Public School
№45 was held in the Teacher’s House. The event was attended by the
Head of the National Center for Teacher Professional Development, Gia
Mamulaishvili.
The Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia continues to work to 5
year strategic plan. The First Deputy of Minister, Koka Sepherteladze,
held a meeting with the members of committee working on development 5
year action plan.
Georgian scientists recently have developed a new methodology of determining weather
forecasts and used it to generate a climate calendar for different regions. This project
was financed by the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia in the
scope of the State Scientific Scholarship Competition.
The Minister, Dimitri
Shashkini, met the staff of the vocational college “Spektri,” its students, and teachers, and introduced to them a
new model of funding for vocational colleges.
The Ministry
of Education and Science of Georgia is developing certification exam
programs for teachers of Esthetics. First Deputy Minister Koka Sepherteladze
met 200 teachers of music, applied, and fine arts and introduced this innovation
to them.
A demonstrative lesson in Geography was
held for the schoolchildren of Rustavi Public School #24 at the “Future Classroom”
of Tbilisi Experimental School #1. The interactive lesson was conducted using a Smart Board and was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of
Georgia.
Minister
of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini held a presentation of
the new electronic program – Skoool Georgia – at Tbilisi Public School #143. The "Skoool Georgia" program will give children the opportunity to use innovative, interactive, and very interesting educational programs.
Upon the initiative of the President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, the Batumi
Georgian Dance Company “Khorumi” departed for Malta last week. Seventy members of the Batumi
Dance Company, who are the students of Batumi public schools, are taking an intensive
English language course in the framework of an MES educational program.
The participants
of “Georgian Language for Future Success” are currently being trained. After
passing a week-long training, 160 teachers will commence their activities in
the non- Georgian schools of Samtskhe- Javakheti, Kvemo Kartli and Kakheti
regions along with local teachers of the Georgian language.

Professional Development, Gia Mamulashvili, the Mayor of Kutaisi, nd Giorgi Tevdoradze attended a teacher training in Kutaisi Public school
№1.
The Minister of Education and Science, Dimitri Shashkini, held a meeting
with 200 teachers of physical education in the Teacher’s House and
introduced them to new developments in the exam program for physical education.
A Presentation of the
popular bilingual scientific journal “TSU Science“ was held at Tbilisi State University.
The event was attended by the Minister, Dimitri
Shashkini, TSU Rector, Alexander Kvitashvili, members of Parliament, and
scientists.
The National Center for Teacher
Professional Development is organizing training for teachers of the English
language in Great Britain. From January 21 to February 3, 17 teachers
from different regions of Georgia will take intensive training course at New
College Nottingham.
The Ministry of Education and Science
of Georgia has started developing a long-term working plan for the next 5 years.
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini held a working
meeting with the members of the working plan committee.
Two hundred thousand schoolchildren of Georgias general education
institutions are currently participating in the National School Olympiad of 2011-2012.
Schoolchildren are now taking the second tour of the Olympiad.
Seven twelfth graders of Tbilisi
Inclusive School #202 will take a two-weeks intensive English language program at New College Nottingham in Great Britain. This opportunity was given to them
by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini.
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini visited
Tbilisi Komarov School of Physics and Mathematic. Minister congratulated
schoolchildren on the beginning of the new semester and observed the
newly rehabilitated hostel.
The Minister, Dimitri Shashkini and chess grandmaster, Garry Kasparov,
signed a cooperation agreement that envisages popularization of the
Chess among the youngsters. Before the signing ceremony, the Minister
and the former world chess champion played a friendly chess game.
The special committee was created to elaborate exam programs for the
teachers of music, fine and applied art. The committee meeting was
attended by the Minister, Dimitri Shashkini and the Minister of Culture,
Nika Rurua.
Minister
of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini held a meeting with
representatives from Russian media and human rights organizations. Minister
shared with them the information about the reforms that are currently being
implemented in the fields of education and science. Guests also had an
opportunity to visit new Teacher’s House.
The President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili and the Minister of
Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini opened a newly
constructed school in the village of Nokalakevi. Up to 300
schoolchildren will be able to study in the new school which is supplied
with the up-to-date inventories and fully meets the modern construction
standards.
The famous Italian industrial designer Giorgetto Giugiauro gave a
lecture in the Georgian Technical University. He shared his experience
and talked about the ways of success. It was decided to open the first International School of Design and
Architecture in the Caucasus region, on the basis of Georgian Technical
University.
The famous Italian industrial designer and inductee of the Automotive
Hall of Fame Giorgetto Giugiuaro is paying an official visit to Georgia.
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini met the
guest from Italy. Famous Georgian industrial designer Zviad Tsikolia
also attended the meeting.

104 of Tbilisi with the newly published Georgian language textbooks for ethnic minority
schoolchildren.
First Deputy Minister of
Education and Science of Georgia Koka Sepherteladze awarded the winners of the
contest “New Year in School”, Tbilisi Public Schools #51, #24 and #10 with
Smart Boards.
Native English-Speaking Teachers continue to arrive as participants in the
educational program “Teach and Learn with Georgia.” Today, a new group of teachers arrived
from different counties around the world.
Upon the decision of the president of
Georgia, the members of group “Candy” – the winners of the Junior Eurovision
2011 - will study an English Language at the New College Nottingham, UK.
The Resource officers visited Iashvili
Children Hospital supporting the children suffering from Leukemia and wished them a Happy New Year. Resource Officers met 40 adults at the
center and spent one day with them. As part of the event, Resource Officers and
Santa Klaus presented the children with sweets and other gifts.
The Minister, Dimitri Shashkini and the General Director of Shota
Rustaveli National Science Foundation wished happy “Old New Year” to the
honorary scientist, Nikoloz Margiani. Mr. Dimitri Shashkini and Mr. Sulkhan Sisauri visited a large family of
Nikoloz Margiani and presented him with the sweets and TV.
Reconstruction works are underway in
the Tbilisi Public school #126. The Minister,
Dimitri Shashkini observed the ongoing rehabilitation works. The school infrastructure will be upgraded according to the modern constuction standards;

The Minister, Dimitri Shashkini
met the teachers that are involved in the program “Georgian Language for Future
Success”. The program “Georgian Language
for Future Success” started in September 2011, by the initiative of the
President.
A conference was organized in the vocational college “Aisi”, (village of
Kachreti, Kakheti) as a part of the Kakheti Development Project
initiated by the President of Georgia. Participation of the vocational
college “Aisi” in the mentioned project was discussed at the conference.
Upon the initiative of the
president of Georgia, Mikhail Saakashvili, Batumi Georgian Dance Company
“Khorumi” will travel to Malta. 65 members of Batumi Dance Company who are the
students of Batumi public schools will take intensive English language course

School Resource Officers paid a

of Georgia Dimitri Shashkini wished Merry Christmas to English language teacher

School Resource Officers paid a
visit to Inclusive Boarding School #200 and wished the children happy New Year
and brought them New Year gifts. 162 Children with Special Needs
study at the Boarding-School №200. 124 of them use the boarding-school service.
Most of them spend their holidays at the institution.
The
Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia undertook a national assessment of
the first graders in English Language and IT technologies; the first Deputy
Minister, Koka Sepherteladze held a briefing on the primary results of the
assessment.

installing the software into the devices.
The
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, held the
briefing for the journalists at the press-club “Prime Time”. As Minister stated,
in 2011 Ministry was implementing projects in 42 directions.
The
First Deputy Minister, Koka Sepherteladze, awarded the winners of the contest“The
goal of my life”. The
contest was organized in two rounds for two age groups (VII-IX; X-XII-th
graders) and up to 100 000 schoolchildren participated in it.

Professor of Teheran University, Philology of Georgian language Said Muliani. Minister
presented Said Muliani with net-books and text-books for the Georgian Sunday
School founded by Said Muliani in Freidan.
Representatives of the National Center for
Teacher Professional Development visited Chiatura Boarding-School #12. They wished
them happy holidays and presented them with sweets and toys.
Construction
of the new school will begin soon in the Village of Shibliani, Sagarejo
Municipality; the Minister, Dimitri Shashkini and representatives of the local
municipality observed the construction site.
The national team of Georgia
returned from Bulgaria with two gold and one bronze medal. President of Georgia Mikheil Saskashvili
awarded with IPADs 11th grader Jimsher Skhirtladze, 10th
grader Nika Nadiradze and Nikoloz Svanadze for achieved success in Informatics.

the First Experimental School with the child friendly animated maps.

Resource officers and schoolchildren of
Kutaisi Public school №29 planted trees in the yard of the same school as a
part of the greenery campaign. As the resource officers state,
participating in such charity campaigns gives them opportunity to be actively
involved in the process of creating and maintaining a safe and healthy school
environment.
Deputy Minister, Ms. Irine Kurdadze and
Director of the National Curriculum Center, Ms. Natia Jokhadze met with the
teachers of Tbilisi Classic Gymnasium and introduced them the guidebooks for
I-VIth grades.
The Deputy
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Nodar Surguladze, along with other members
of a Georgian delegation, paid an official visit to the Republic of Suriname. During
the visit, the Georgian delegation presented 100 "Buki" net-books and 5
smart-boards to the Surinamese.

22 public schools and resource officers visited the Natakhtari Factory. Throughout the event, the guests were given tours of the lemonade production and bottling technology centers and visited the brewery and

Resource Officers visited Saint Kvirike
and Ivlitas shelters for mothers and children in Tsavkisi and wished the
children a Happy Saint Barbare’s Day. They spent a whole day with the residents.

The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini, and
Tbilisi Mayor Mr. Gigi Ugulava visited the future construction site of a new vocational
college, called “Mermisi." The symbolic dismantling of the old
building was undertaken with the use of the special technical equipment
by the Mayor himself.

part of a contest dedicated to the 150th anniversary of Vazha Pshavela.
The Minister of Education
and Science of Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini, signed the decrees that endorsed the
programs of high school, national unified and teacher certification
exams. The exams’s programs are in full compliance with the national curriculim;
the duration of the teachers certification examinations will be lengthened.
Kachreti vocational education college hosted a
fair that featured Georgian food, wine and canned products prepared by the
students of this institution during different workshops. Successful students and teachers were awarded as
a part of the event.
Deputy Minister Nodar Surguladze
participated in an event marked as part of World AIDs day, awarded the
winners of the project Choice on You,
and presented the participating school principals and teachers with special
prizes and certificates.
Resource Officers visited Saint
Kvirike and Ivlitas shelter for mothers and children. They spent a whole day
with the residents and assisted the teachers in solving day to day issues. Archpriest
Giorgi Sakhvadze also visited shelter and blessed all who live in the house.
Tbilisi
City Court hosted schoolchildren of various public schools as part of the
public law project. In particular, the court organized a seminar on the issues
of human rights, which was also attended by the First Deputy Minister, Koka
Sepherteladze.
The first stage of renovation works were concluded in public
school №107. To recognize this achievement, the Minister, Dimitri Shashkini, visited
the school and opened the Physics, Chemistry and Biology labs.
Deputy Minister Irine Kurdadze awarded
five vocational colleges with golden medals and granted twenty teachers of vocational
colleges with cash prizes and certificates; these teachers have passed
trainings in teacher professional skills and inclusive education. In total, 103
successful teachers have been awarded.
The Minister of Education and Science of
Georgia, Mr. Dimitri Shashkini, introduced a
strategic plan of 2012 to members of
the Georgian government. The presentation covered all
levels of the education sector.
A
memorandum of understanding was concluded between Rustaveli
National Science Foundation and Jülich Research Centre to
support cooperation among both research institutions and their scientists.
The Minister of Education and Science
of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, and representatives of the program “Teach and
Learn with Georgia,” met with English language volunteer teachers who work at
public schools in Tbilisi, Rustavi, Kaspi, Khashuri, Sagarejo and Mtskheta.
The National Curriculum for the years 2011-2016 has been translated into the Azeri, Armenian, and Russian languages. The Deputy Minister, Irine
Kurdadze, and the Director of the National Curriculum Center, Natia Jokhadze, held a
briefing on this issue.
The
Minister, Dimitri Shashkini, and Governor of Kvemo Kartli, David Kirkitadze,
opened the Georgian Language House in Gardabani, at which ethnic minorities will pursue
an education in the Georgian language. Any interested person, irrespective of their age, can
learn the state language at the newly opened institution.
The
Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, met with 200 twelfth graders of Tbilisi public schools and spoke to them about the
changes that will be introduced to higher education laws starting from January,
2012.
The
principals of Azeri schools are now attending Georgian Language trainings in
the Zhvania School of Public Administration in Kutaisi. Deputy Minister of
Education and Science of Georgia, Mr. Koka Seferteladze, attended one such
intensive training course.
The President of Georgia, with the dropping of a capsule,
laid the foundation of a new professional center and swimming pool in Gldani.
The President was present to speak and symbolically "break the
ground" of the new construction site.
First Deputy Minister, Koka Sepherteladze opened
a new educational institution in the village of Akhuti. In total, 150 schoolchildren will study in the new
school of Akhuti village, Chkhorotsku district. Classrooms, sport hall, library
and IT room have been renovated in compliance with international standards. All
first graders got the netbooks as gifts from the President of Georgia.
Resource
Officers visited Gori Clinic and spent one day with children diagnosed with cerebral
palsy. As part of the event, Resource Officers presented the children with
sweets and other gifts.
7 twelfth graders of the Tbilisi №202 School for
Blind and Visually Impaired Children will spend two weeks in London. The Minister
Dimitri Shashkini made this decision while visiting the school on the
International Day of People with Disabilities.
Minister of Education and Science,
Dimitri Shashkini, held a meeting with Kyrgyz businessmen and introduced them
current reforms in the education and science fields.

of cooperation and delivered opening remarks at an international conference.
Winners were declared for a competition of Bachelor’s and

Georgia, Dimitri Shashkini, opened a new sewing shop in the Poti Vocational
College “Pazisi”. As a part of a UNDP project, the shop was provided with
modern sewing equipments including machines, smart boards, a smart podium, and more.
Deputy Minister, Ms. Irine Kurdadze,
introduced a new computer game to the schoolchildren of Tbilisi public school №60.
The new game “Art” will be incorporated in school program in parallel with
other school programs and will assist the schoolchildren to learn world art and
culture.
Minister of Education and Science, Mr.
Dimitri Shashkini and Governor of the Imereti region, Mr.Lasha Makatsaria
opened a new joinery workshop at the Kutaisi Vocational College “Iberia”. The
construction of the workshop was initiated by the President of Georgia.
