The Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli participated in the online welcome event for the freshmen of Kutaisi International University and congratulated the first stream of students on the beginning of the academic year. The event was attended by: Honorary President of KIU, Wolfgang Herman, Rector of the University, Alexander Tevzadze, the academic team, faculty members and students.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli: “Dear students, I would like to congratulate you wholeheartedly on your studies at this special university - Kutaisi International University! I can confidently say that you have become a part of the truly distinguished academic life of the University. Kutaisi International University is a truly world-class educational center, where you will have the opportunity to receive a higher level of education. As you know, the author of the idea of the university is Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili and a university of this level, of this scale could not have existed without his and his family's extremely important charity. The establishment of Kutaisi International University has created a particularly important hub of education and science in Georgia.
You have indeed been fortunate: your professors, in addition to being excellent teachers, are also world-renowned researchers. It is important that from the first year you will have the opportunity to engage in scientific research activities, which, of course, will enrich your student life overall.
Being a student at Kutaisi International University is a great honor and responsibility. It is important to make the most of the opportunities offered by the university. An exciting stage begins in your life and I am sure you will make the most of it. I am also confident, that upon your graduation you will be extremely competitive on the world stage.”
Mikheil Chkhenkel introduced the students to the world-famous scientist, Professor Wolfgang Hermann, who headed the Munich Technical University for many years and is now the honorary president of Kutaisi International University. The Minister stressed that his involvement in the academic life of the KIU is extremely important and will add a new dimension to the University.
Mikhail Chkhenkel also explained that the KIU academic programs are based on the academic programs of the Technical University of Munich. Consequently, Georgian students will be able to get an education through the very programs that their peers study at the world's leading university - the Technical University of Munich. It is also important that KIU students will be lectured by Georgian professors and from professors at the world's leading universities.
The Minister also focused on the scientific research process of Kutaisi International University and noted that there will be an Hadron therapy center on the university premises, where along with the treatment of cancer, the scientific research process will be conducted in medicine, in particular, oncology, nuclear physics and medical physics.
The students were also welcomed by the Honorary President of KIU Wolfgang Herman, Rector Alexander Tevzadze, Chairman of the Advisory Board, Sebastian Schmidt, Computer Science Program Coordinators: Helmut Seidl and Wolfgang Paul, etc.
The first stage of development has already been completed at Kutaisi International University and it is ready to accept first stream students. During the pandemic, KIU will place students on residential campuses in accordance with the recommendations issued by the Ministry of Health.
This year, 246 entrants became official KIU students who were able to overcome the high threshold set by the university in the Unified National Examinations. Tuition at the university is in English.
KIU offers its students vocational, undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral programs, as well as research opportunities. The task of the University is to provide international quality education, conduct research, train highly qualified workforce and human capital, which will contribute to the economic growth and development of Georgia and the entire region.
