To better develop Kutaisi International University, an online meeting of the University Supervisory Board was held. The meeting was attended by: First Vice Prime Minister, Minister of Regional Development, and Infrastructure - Maia Tskitishvili, Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport - Mikheil Chkhenkeli (Chairman of the Supervisory Board), Chairman of the International Charity Foundation Boar - Niko Chkhetiani, Project Director – Vakhtang Tsagareli, Alexander Tevzadze - Rector of Kutaisi International University and Chancellor - Magda Maghradze.
The members of the Council summarized the results achieved by Kutaisi International University and discussed its development prospects in the academic, scientific-research and infrastructural directions. An interesting discussion took place around important strategic issues.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli introduced the vision of the development of Kutaisi International University to the members of the council, which envisages the creation and introduction of new academic programs in cooperation with the world's leading universities. According to the Minister, significant results in this regard have already been achieved with several universities, including the University of Rennes (France) and the Polytechnic University of Milan (Italy). As a result, new international standard academic programs for all three levels of education will emerge at Kutaisi International University. It should be noted that the current programs at Kutaisi International University are analogous to the University of Munich.
Mikheil Chkhenkeli focused on a cyber security education program that will be created in partnership with American and Japanese partners. Board members also discussed the implementation of a teacher training program at Kutaisi International University in the field of STEM.
Moreover, the chairman of the council, Mikheil Chkhenkeli, also stressed the need to strengthen cooperation with the private sector, which will be a prerequisite for the employment of graduates and their further development in the field.
The parties assessed the visit of the representatives of IDOM (Spain), one of the world's leading architectural bureaus in Georgia, and the representatives of IBA (Belgium), a manufacturer of proton therapy equipment for cancer, who are implementing a project of Hadron Therapy Center at Kutaisi International University. It was noted that the construction and development of the center is proceeding according to the plan and meeting the deadlines.
The members of the council discussed the plan for the development of the university city and the gradual implementation of a separate construction.
The author of the idea and concept of Kutaisi International University belongs to Mr. Bidzina Ivanishvili. As a result of his and his family's extremely important contribution, a world-wide academic and scientific-research space emerged in the country.
In 2020, Kutaisi International University was solemnly opened. The first students were admitted to three undergraduate English language programs: Management, Mathematics and Computer Science. The criteria for admitting students to the KIU is one of the highest in Georgia today and is in line with the requirements of the Munich Technical University program. In 2020, 1112 entrants expressed a desire to become a KIU student. 245 young people overcame the high bar imposed by the university.
Kutaisi International University is the first university campus-type higher education institution in the region, which is located in an ecologically clean environment in Kutaisi and includes state-of-the-art academic buildings, libraries, cafeterias, well-equipped sports and road facilities, accommodation, work and public facilities.
