Tbilisi has officially received the status of World Book Capital within the framework of the UNESCO project - "World Book Capital". Owing to the decision of UNESCO, the city will hold this status for one year from April 23, 2021, onwards. Numerous educational, cognitive, infrastructural, mass and children's projects will be implemented within the scope of this project.
The Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, Mikheil Chkhenkeli participated in the ceremony of handing over the status of the World Book Capital to Tbilisi together with the representatives of the executive and legislative authorities.
World Book Capital is a large-scale project established in 2001 by the decision of the General Conference of UNESCO. It aims to promote books and reading, to promote the book industry and all related fields, and to promote contemporary authors, translators, libraries and publishers.
The project "Tbilisi - World Book Capital" is implemented with the support of Tbilisi City Hall.
