The official delegation of the Ministry of Education and Science of Georgia, led by the Deputy Minister – Lia Gigauri, visited Greece with an official agenda. The aim of the visit was to complete the negotiations with the Ministry of Education, Research and Religious Affairs of Greece, in order to, implement the Georgian language course to the interested students at public schools of Greece.
Within the official visit context, the deputy Minister of Education and Science of Georgia – Lia Gigauri, held a meeting with the deputy Minister of Education, Science and Religious Affairs of Greece – Kostas Zouraris, who once again expressed his inclination for cooperation between the two countries. The sides discussed the various aspects of cooperation in the fields of education and science, as well as the obligations for implementing the pilot program for teaching the Georgian language at public schools of Greece.
During the meeting, Lia Gigauri expressed her immense gratitude towards her Greek colleague, in regards to allowing the implementation of the pilot program for the Georgian language. In addition, Kostas Zouraris stated, that he is always ready to expand the program to other cities and schools of Greece, if the request comes from the members of the Georgian diaspora.
In addition, within the official visit framework, the deputy Minister, visited the public school N50 in Athens, where the Georgian language course is planned to be piloted. She also met with the Georgian students, currently studying at the school.
Furthermore, Lia Gigauri met with the members and the representatives of Georgian diaspora in Greece, who are in charge of the educational Sunday schools teaching Georgian language and a variety of programs. The deputy minister provided the information during the meeting, regarding the planned and current educational reforms in the educational system, whereas receiving the information about the necessities for the well-being of Georgian Sunday schools. The colleagues also discussed on the importance of distance learning, as well as, on the matters of problem solving.
