From the 2019-2020 academic year, Iakob Gogebashvili's "Deda Ena" will return to the schools with an adapted version and will become an important teaching resource along with the existing textbooks.
An adapted version of the textbook was developed by the special commission of experts created by the order of the Parliament of Georgia and by the order of the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Georgia - Mikheil Batiashvili. The book will be provided to the students of all elementary schools free of charge.
Iakob Gogebashvili's method of compiling the Georgian alphabet textbook was granted the status of an intangible cultural heritage in 2013, and the national category was defined in 2014.
On the basis of the law adopted by the Parliament of Georgia, the Ministry has prepared the Georgian alphabet textbook by Iakob Gogebashvili's method. Given the high public interest in Iakob Gogebashvili's "Deda Ena", a textbook was created that, on the one hand, was based on national and cultural backgrounds, and on the other hand, it is in full compliance with modern teaching methods.
The latest edition of Iakob Gogebashvili's "Deda Ena" was adapted to preserve the author's basic methods, principles and material, and to bring him closer to modernity. The archaic vocabulary has partially changed, but the basic vocabulary that is still used today remains in the textbook unchanged.
